2010 Percentage of Income Spent on Food, Per Country

Here is a fresh compilation, with data from National Geographic and Euro Monitor. The 'Food %' column shows the percentage of income spent on good as a percentage of gross income, per capita.

Lower numbers mean that those countries spend more of their income on non food items, not necessarily a good thing. That includes housing, but in general it means non essentials.

Lower numbers means countries have MORE money to spend in other areas and are RICHER.

lower numbers also mean they are going for cheap fix like fast food.

Actually, the number has to do with the supply of food. Since there is a surplus in the US the food costs less, therefore less of our income is spent on food!
