In an annual revision of the figures, the Treasury Department that China's holdings totaled $1.16T at the end of 2010. That is 30% higher than an estimate the government made two weeks ago. (Yahoo)
China is the largest foreign holder of U.S. Treasury debt. Japan had the second highest foreign holdings, totaling $882.3B at the end of the year.

The U.K.now owns $272.1B in the new report, actually $269.2B from the last report ($541.3B).
It turns out that Chinese investors who purchase their Treasury securities in London were apparently counted as British investors!

The total foreign holdings of Treasury debt stood at $4.44T at the end of December, up 1.5 percent from  two weeks ago.

About two-thirds of U.S. Treasurys owned overseas are held by foreign governments and central banks.
